Wyuka Honors Veterans with Wreaths Across America Nine hundred and twenty wreaths were placed with great care on the graves of veterans on Saturday December 14, 2013 at Wyuka Cemetery 3600 “O” Street in Lincoln, Nebraska. A ceremony-complete with patriotic speeches honoring the dedication and sacrifice of veterans, prayers for the fallen and playing of the National Anthem, America the Beautiful, God Bless America and Taps. Representatives of the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, Merchant Marines, Navy, Nabraska National Guard, Patriot Guard Riders, Lincoln Air Force Junior ROTC, 155th Civil Air Patrol Composite Squadron and several Boy Scout Troops helped with the ceremonies. This was the 4th year that Wyuka has participated in the Wreaths Across America ceremony. The tradition of laying wreaths to honor veterans began in 1992, when Morrill Worcester of Worcester Wreath Company donated 5,000 wreaths to be placed on the headstones of an older section of Arlington Cemetery. Today over 800 locations around the nation participate in this event. Thank you to our presenting sponsors State Farm Military Affinity Group, BNSF Railway and also to the civic, military and youth organizations and the many individuals who supported “Wreaths Across America at Wyuka” with donations and help with the laying of wreaths. Hy-Vee at 27th & Superior Street provided refreshments for the event.
