Muriel L. Glathar

GlatharMuriel Lucile Glathar, 92, died March 27th, 2014, in hospice after a valiant struggle with cancer.  She was born December 19, 1921 in Julian Ne.  to Archibald and Winifred (Castleman) Cook.  She was the loving matriarch of the family, with a warm heart, a kind word, and an open ear to everyone she met.

Homemaker, loving wife, mother and grandmother, Muriel truly excelled in her role as “Grandma”, spending many hours engaged in playing games and cards with her grandchildren throughout her life.   On August 14, 1941, in Plattsmouth Ne. she was married to Dale Glathar.  At that time, Dale was serving in the military; he spent 3 years overseas after their marriage.  They enjoyed 47 years of marriage before Dale’s passing in 1988.   As members of the “Greatest Generation” Muriel and Dale shared similar values of faithful commitment, loyalty to country, work ethic, financial prudence and personal responsibility.  They raised four children, passing many of their beliefs and values on to their children.

Muriel is survived by three children Bart (Elizabeth) Glathar, Marsha (Larry) Newman, Kurt (Kimberly) Glathar, and daughter-in-law Judy Glathar — Grandchildren Jason Glathar, Doug Glathar, Vicki Glathar, Mitchell Glathar, Brett (Samantha) McGovern, Amanda Keinholz, Ben (Julie) Glathar, Ann (David) Clark, Laura Glathar, Daniel Glathar, Natalie Fleming, Emily Fleming, Terri Craft, Rhett Sturm, and twelve great grandchildren.  Muriel was preceded in death by husband Dale and son Gary.

Cremation no visitation.  Memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday April 12, at Wyuka Funeral Home, 3600 “O” St. Lincoln Ne.   There is a meal to follow immediately after the Celebration of Life Service.  Send Memorials to Tabitha Hospice or American Diabetes Assoc.  Memorials left at the service will be forwarded to these two organizations.

Theodore Edward Hawkins

March 25, 2014

Theodore Edward Hawkins, infant son of Mark and Tonia (Thelander) Hawkins went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 20, 2014.
He was born on March 13, 2014 in Omaha. Survivors include his parents, Mark and Tonia; brother, Victor; grandparents Ron and Cathy Hawkins and Kent and Nancy
Thelander; aunts and uncle Troy and Tracy Hilligas and Tina Thelander; cousins
Kiley, Jack, and Ellie. He was greeted in Heaven by his uncle Randal Lee
Hawkins.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 10:00
A.M. at the Church of Nazarene, 1901 South 70th, Lincoln and reception will
follow.

Memorials may be directed to Wyuka Funeral Home and will be sent in
Theodore’s name to the Ronald McDonald House of Omaha.

Esther A. Zanderholm

March 19, 2014

ZanderholmEsther A. Zanderholm, age 66 of Lincoln, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2014 with her family by her side.  She was born February 28, 1948 in Sutherland, Nebraska to Modesto and Angelina (Serria) Perez.  Esther was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed bowling and playing bingo.

Survivors include her husband, Sam Zanderholm; her children, Melissa Thompson, Mikal Thompson and his significant other, Lindsey Kurtzer  all of Lincoln.  Grandchildren: Zachary, Kelynn, Caden, Araina, Aislynn, Mikal, Damarion, Malicia and Amya.  Great granddaughter, Emma.  Brothers and sisters-in-law: Cruz and Hermana Vargas, Joe and Rosie Vargas, Ray and Darlene Vargas.  Sisters and brothers-in-law: Jennie and Manuel Cuellar, Tomasita and Donald Reyes, Benita Del Toro.  Numerous nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by her daughter, Angie Perez Thompson, her parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Services will be held at Noon on Monday, March 24, 2014 at St. Paul United Methodist Church.  Graveside services will be at 2:30 P.M. on Monday, March 24th at Wyuka Cemetery.  Family and friends will gather inside the “O” Street gate.  Visitation will be at Wyuka Funeral Home on Sunday, March 23rd from Noon until 8:00 P.M.  The family will be at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 P.M. to greet friends.

Marie Walton

March 10, 2014

WaltonMarie Walton, age 99 of Lincoln passed away March 9, 2014.  She was born May 11, 1914 in Lincoln.

Survivors include 8 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and one brother, Herman Greenwald of Florida.

Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 13th at Wyuka Funeral Home.  Interment of ashes will be at Wyuka Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 10 A.M. until 4 P.M. on Wednesday, March 12 at Wyuka Funeral Home.

John C. Planer

John C. Planer, age 60 of Lincoln passed away February 21, 2014.  He was born December 15, 1953 in Lincoln to George and Irene (Timm) Planer.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Wyuka Cemetery.  Family and friends will gather inside the “O” street gate prior to 10:50 A.M.  Pastor Mark Ebert officiating.

Timothy A. Sobotta

March 2, 2014

SobottaTimothy A. Sobotta, age 54 of Lincoln passed away March 1, 2014.  He was born May 6, 1959 in Lincoln to Norman R. and Janis (Hupka) Sobotta.  Tim was employed with Burlington Northern for over 20 years as a welder and car man.  He enjoyed listening to music, watching basketball and hanging out with his friends and family.

Survivors include his mother, Janis Sobotta.  Sisters and Brother-in-law: Debra Olson and Tammie Kamerzell and her husband Scott.  Nieces: Christine Olson and Jennifer Johnson and her husband Justin all of Lincoln.  Preceded in death by his father, Norman and nephew, Matthew Olson.

Services will be held at Noon on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Wyuka Funeral Home.  Interment of ashes will be at a later date in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, St. Mary, Nebraska.

Lee A. Smith

lee's memory 127Lee Adam Smith, 28, Army Specialist, PARATROOPER, 82nd Airborne Division, Veteran of two tours in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Lee was a member of Boy Scout Troop 99, Venture Crew 99, Lincoln High School Football, Wrestling, and Baseball Teams, passed away Monday, February 24, 2014. He was born in Warren, MI on November 28, 1985 (his father’s 30th birthday) to Mark and Cathy (Blair) Smith.  Lee was completing a criminal justice degree with plans to work in law enforcement. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a smile that could light up the sky. Lee loved Nebraska football and The Steelers. Lee collected gnomes and nutcrackers. Lee was a good man with a big heart. He loved laughing. He loved being with friends. He liked Star Trek and Star Wars. He was loyal. He was a patriot. He loved his family.

Lee is survived by his parents; sister, Laticia Bergmeier (Nathan) of Odell, brothers, Christopher (Jennifer) and Matthew of Lincoln; nieces, Stormi and Madi; nephew, Marcelo; many uncles, aunts, and cousins. The poochies, Franky, Bud, Bella, Penelope, and Princess and the kitties, Cali and Foster.   His grandparents will welcome him into Heaven.

A celebration of Lee’s life will be Monday March 3, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Wyuka Funeral Home 3600 “O” St, Lincoln. Burial with military honors Wyuka’s Soldier’s Circle. Presentation of flag by his best friend Captain Stephen Austria. Visitation will be from 1p.m. to 8p.m. on Sunday March 2, 2014 at Wyuka. Memorials to family for a charitable donation in Lee’s memory at a later date.
