Myrna J. Matzen

Myrna J. Matzen age 80 of Blair, Nebraska passed away November 29, 2014.  She was born July 26, 1934 in Omaha to Chris and Olga (Anderson) Frahm.  After graduating from Benson High School in 1952, Myrna attended summer school at the University of Omaha where she received her teachers certificate.  That next fall she taught rural school in Washington and Douglas counties.  She married Philip Matzen in 1954 and started working part time as a nurses aide at the Blair Hospital.  She enjoyed the work so much she went to school and received her LPN license and worked for several years at the Good Shepherd Home in Blair.  Myrna decided to return to school to earn her RN license in 1982 and worked at the Blair Hospital until 2001.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Philip Matzen of Blair; Son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Jan Matzen of Lincoln, Nebraska; Son, Mark Matzen of Blair, Nebraska.  Grandsons, Timothy, Michael and Joel all of Lincoln.  Sisters and Brother-in-law, Norma Schneemeyer of Ft. Calhoun, Nebraska; Alice Penke of Omaha; Betty and Lloyd Felter of Jefferson, Iowa.  She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers-in-law, Harold Schneemeyer and Henry Penke.

Services will be held at the First Lutheran Church, 2146 Wright St.  Blair, Nebraska on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at 11:00 A.M.  Visitation will held one hour prior to service time at the church.

Interment will be at the Blair Cemetery.

Memorials in lieu of flowers to the Blair rescue squad or donor’s choice.

George H. Doering

Doering, George photo-001GEORGE H. DOERING, age 79 of Lincoln, passed away on the morning of Nov. 26, 2014 surrounded by his family.  George was born in Havana, Cuba the son of Pedro Hernandez and Klarissa Doering.  A free spirit, he fought in the Cuban revolution to free his country from the Batista Dictatorship.  When the revolution was declared communist – George came to America, settling in Lincoln in 1963;  he ran his own business here for forty plus years.

He is survived by his wife Yolanda; a son, Eric (Marlyn) Doering; daughters, Estela Hernandez, Sarah (Sandro) Sandoval, and Becky (Josh) Fleming; grandchildren, Anthony Estrada, Jorge Estrada, Stella Sandoval; and four nieces and nephews.

George was preceded by his parents and sister Estela Perez-Morell.

Graveside Services will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 28, 2014 at College View Church Cemetery at 70th & Pioneer St., Lincoln, NE.  Pastor Alejandro Dovald will be officiating.  Wyuka Funeral Home is handling arrangements for the family.

Sharon M. Roberts

Sharon M. Roberts age 72, of Lincoln passed away November 19, 2014.  She was born September 22, 1942 in Lincoln to Raymond and Mildred (Albright) Gross.

Survivors include her daughter, Angie Miller; Mother, Mildred Gross; Grandsons, Ian Miller and Dylan Miller all of Lincoln.  Brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Diane Gross of Charlotte, NC; Sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Rich Levine of Boynton Beach, Florida; nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by her husband, Harold, father, Raymond and sister, Ann Marie.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, November 26th at Wyuka Funeral Home Chapel.  No viewing, Sharon’s wishes were to be cremated.

Wilson, MarieMarie (Hoffman) Patterson Wilson, 89, of Lincoln, went to heaven Nov. 19, 2014. Born in Lincoln to John & Barbara (Kisselman) Hoffman April 8, 1925, Marie loved to dance & travel.   She worked for many years and retired from Norden Labs.

Survivors include sisters-in-law Betty Hoffman of CO & Mickie Hoffman of Lincoln, daughter-in-law Cheryl Dill Patterson of Murdock, granddaughter & husband Heather (Patterson) & Drew Meyer of NC, grandson & wife Christopher & Melissa Patterson of KS, four nieces, two nephews, four grandchildren, dear friend, Mary Beth Morris.  Preceded in death by husband Mel, parents and siblings, and children Timothy J. Patterson & Deborah (Patterson) Mitchell.

Memorial service will be held 1:30pm on Sat. Nov. 22 at Wyuka Funeral Home with Pastor Keith Morris.  No visitation, cremation. Memorials to family for later designation can be sent to 6039 Dixon Drive Raleigh, NC 27609.

Lily 2-001LILY HAJJ, 93 of Lincoln, formerly of Highland Park, MI, entered eternal life on Nov. 19, 2014, peacefully at home surrounded by family.  Born April 4, 1921, daughter of John and Esther (Ostenrud) Matson, on the family farm northeast of Battleview, ND.

Lily was raised on the farm, attended country school, and went on to graduate high school.  As a young woman, she left the area in hopes of finding employment; she lived in Minneapolis and worked for Northwest Airlines – then moved on to Detroit, working at Park-Davis Pharmaceuticals.

She later married Saleem (Sam) Hajj making a home in Highland Park, MI.  Sam passed away suddenly in Nov. 1962.  She did not remarry; instead focused her attention on her two daughters and their education (Sylvia Hajj (Sabo) and Dr. Kathryn Hajj (Bree)) while also maintaining Sam’s busy coffee shop/restaurant.

She loved people, enjoyed friendships, and was passionate about her faith in God.  Lily had a thirst for life and loved travel, culture and education.  With her daughters, she traveled to Rome and ventured to Sweden, Norway, Finland, Russia, Greece and Turkey.

Her loving family includes:  daughters, Sylvia (Jesse) Sabo of Prescott, MI, Dr. Kathryn (Cory Bree) Hajj of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren, Christian (Natasha), Jeannine, David, and Jason Sabo and Isabelle Bree; brothers, Calvin Matson of Damascas, OR, and Willard Matson of Devils Lake, ND; and Betsy (Palmer) Bakken of Fargo, ND.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Sat. Nov. 22 at Cathedral of the Risen Christ, 3500 Sheridan Blvd., Lincoln with a Visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 pm (Rosary 7 pm) on Fri. Nov. 21 at Wyuka Funeral Home, 3600 “O” Street, Lincoln.  Memorials may be made to Cathedral of Risen Christ deity for the education of young priests. www.wyuka.com

Dwaine E. Hartman

Hartman, Dwaine obit phot-001DWAINE E. HARTMAN, age 86 of Lincoln, passed away on Nov. 19 , 2014.  He was born to Paul and Blanch (Anderson) Hartman in Pawnee City, Ne.  Dwaine married Edith Johnson on Dec. 10, 1949, and they settled in Lincoln. He made a 30 year career in Appliance Repair, and they raised two daughters.  Dwaine proudly served his country and was a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife; daughters Judy (Richard) Neu, Jan (Roger) Knudsen; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Preceded by his parents; his step-father Lynn Schram; and two sisters.

Funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sat., Nov. 22 at Wyuka Funeral Home Chapel, 3600 “O” St., Lincoln.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, Pastor Mike McMurtry is officiating.  Military Honors and burial to follow at Wyuka Cemetery.

WroblewskiWilliam “Bill” Wroblewski, age 52 of Lincoln, passed away November 5, 2014.  He was born July 30, 1962 in San Angelo, Texas to Peter and Sharon Jean (Radtke) Wroblewski.  Bill was a graduate of the UNL law school and editor of the law review.  He was a seasoned marathon runner and was a Boston marathon qualifier.

Survivors include his wife, Lea of Lincoln.  Daughters, Hannah Wroblewski of Lincoln; Claire and Sophia Wroblewski of Gordon, Nebraska.  Parents, Peter and Sharon Wroblewski.  Brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Amanda Wroblewski of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Daniel and Katherine Wroblewski of Bellevue, Nebraska.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, November 10th at Wyuka Funeral Home.

Memorials may be left for the family for a later designation.

Ilene P. (Brunkow) Sieck

liliesIlene P. (Brunkow) Sieck, age 74, of Lincoln passed away at Crete Manor on Nov. 3, 2014.
