Virginia I. Schessler

SchesslerVirginia I. Schessler age 93 of Lincoln passed away June 11, 2015.  She was born August 30, 1921 in Coos Bay, Oregon to John and Ellen Louise (Thornerose) King.  Later the family moved to San Diego, California where she graduated from Hoover High School followed by hairdressing school.  She worked in that profession for several years and met her future husband David Schessler.  They married on November 20, 1946, then moved to Lincoln in 1951.  Virginia was a member of the Sons of Norway fraternal organization in San Diego for most of her life.  She became a Camp Fire Girls leader in the late 1950’s,  followed by a position on the Lincoln Camp Fire Girls District Council.  In the 1960’s she worked at Miller & Paine then the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the registrar’s office and the UNL department of textiles, clothing and design until retiring in the 1980’s.  Virginia was involved with Beta Sigma Phi business women’s sorority and a member of First Plymouth Church.  She loved sewing embroidery, clothing and quilting.  Virginia also loved to spend time in her garden and was an avid reader.

Survivors include her daughter, Marjorie J. (Schessler) Osborne of Lincoln; brother, John C. King of San Diego, California and a niece Andrea (Phelps) and Noel Parr of LaMesa, California.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, David Schessler and her sister, Jeanette (King) Phelps.

Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Wyuka Funeral Home.

Visitation will be at Wyuka Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. with the family greeting friends from 7:00-8:00 P.M.

Interment will be at Wyuka Cemetery

Memorials to the Nebraska Cancer Research Center for breast cancer research in Virginia’s memory.

    I am very sorry for the loss of your mother losing a parent is always a most difficult thing. remember though you will never lose all of the memories. they will always be with you. sights sounds and places will all trigger thoughts of times you will cherish and put a smile on your face
