James L. Jurgens

Jurgens folder photoJames L. Jurgens age 65 of Lincoln, passed away September 29, 2015.  He was born August 31, 1950 in Fremont, Nebraska to Richard and Peggy (Clark) Jurgens.

Survivors include his son, Bryce Jurgens and his fiancé Jackie Fullerton of Lincoln; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Trisha Jurgens of Lincoln and a daughter, Janelle Miller of Wilber, Nebraska.  James’ fiancé, Vicki Jurgens of Lincoln.  8 grandchildren.  Sister, Cheryl Jindra of Friend, Nebraska.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, October 5, 2015 at Capitol City Christian Church, 7800 Holdrege, Lincoln.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 5th at church beginning at 10:00 A.M.

Memorials to the family for a later designation.

Lawrence H. Lohmeier

LohmeierLawrence H. Lohmeier age 81 of Lincoln, passed away September 28, 2015.  He was born November 4, 1933 in Pocatello, Idaho to Lawrence and LaVaun (Parker) Lohmeier.  Lawrence was a cook by trade and was the owner of Lohmeier’s Café.  He graduated from Blessed Sacrament School in 1949 and Cathedral High School in 1952.

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Sally and William Jonas of Lincoln, Eva and Kenneth Hillyard of Blue Springs, Missouri and Carolyn Lohmeier of Fullerton, Nebraska.  Sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Karen Lohmeier of Lincoln, Rod and Teresa Lohmeier of New Albany, Indiana.  9 Grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, soon to be 7.  Siblings, Ken Lohmeier of Lake Tahoe, California, Joe Lohmeier of Honolulu, Hawaii, Della Olson of Wisconsin and Mary Barrett of California.  Preceded in death by his son, Forrest Wade.

Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, October 2, 2015 at Wyuka Funeral Home.

Interment of ashes will be at Wyuka Cemetery.

Alberta J. Cartagena

Cartagena photoAlberta Josephine (Keech) Cartagena, age 84 of Lincoln, passed away on Friday, Sept.18th, 2015. Born June 21, 1931 in Lincoln, NE to James Franklin and Edith Keech. Alberta retired from the US Soil Conservation Service as a cartographic supervisor. After retiring from the government, she continued her working career at Tabitha Health Care Services. Alberta had a zest for life with a love of travel. She was an artist, who loved to paint, quilt and write poetry. Alberta was a lifelong learner and a voracious reader. She was preceded in death by her husband Carlos Cartagena and her siblings. She is survived by her children, Steven and Teresa; daughter-in-law Lori; grandchildren Trevor (Keri) and Kelsey. Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2015 at Wyuka Funeral Home, 3600 “O” Street, Lincoln. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the American Heart Association.

Andrea M. Kabourek

Andrea Mary (Baker) Kabourek, 38, of Lincoln, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at home with her husband and parents.  She was born September 1, 1977 in Lincoln to Ken and Estelle (Plantz) Baker.. Andrea had fought the brave battle against cancer and served as inspiration to many with her “I CAN. I WILL!” mantra. She was a teacher and running coach at Lincoln East High School. Memorial arrangements are being made to a cross country scholarship at Lincoln East and the Lincoln Children’s Zoo in which details will given later.


A Celebration of Life for Andrea will be held on September 27 at 1 p.m. at Snyder Arena on the Nebraska Wesleyan University Campus. Doors will open at noon. Family and friends request casual dress (no black).





Freida Flack

Freida Flack, age 91 of Lincoln, passed away with grace and dignity on July 23, 2015. Her strength, fight, and love will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Born in Lincoln, NE on Oct. 24, 1923, the youngest of 13 children; Freida graduated Lincoln High in 1941. She worked in Defense 1941-44 and was married on Nov. 5, 1944 to John Flack. John preceded her in death. Freida retired from Bryan Memorial Hospital in 1991; was a member of First Plymouth Congregational Church; Eastern Star; and Daughters of the Nile. The family thanks Legacy Terrace in Lincoln for years of friends and fulfillment.

Survived by daughter, Maryellen (William) Heggen of Austin, TX; son, Thomas Dean (Janice) Flack of Scottsdale, AZ; four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.



William R. (Bill) Wood, 73, of Lincoln, passed away September 11, 2015.

Born Nov. 25, 1941 to Robert and Ruth (Collier) Wood in New Lexington, OH. Bill served in the United States Air Force from 1960-64. He married Ila Jean Shaw in Edgar, NE, in 1964 and they raised two children.

After nine years as a barber, he earned an Associate’s in Accounting and began a career in Agribusiness. He worked for Farmland, then Cenex Co-ops, becoming a manager, until retirement.

Survived by wife, Ila Jean; son, Kevin Wood of Valley; daughter, Amy (Grant) Rosenthal of Blair; grandson, Jacob Gleason of Valley; brother, Jim (Kaye) Wood of Junction City, OH; sister, Bonnie (Gary) Dunwoody of New Lexington, OH; brother-in-law, LaVern (Rose Mary) Shaw of Grand Island; sister-in-law, Rita (Adolf) Ohle of Republican City; brother-in-law, John Emmert of Somerset, OH; nephews, nieces and many other loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Carol Emmert.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tues., Sept. 15, 2015 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Lincoln, NE. Visitation will be held one hour prior at the church; burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery, 3600 “O” St, Lincoln, with Military Honors. Memorials given to the family will be donated to St. Rose Catholic School in New Lexington, OH. Condolences at www.wyuka.com

Betty J. Johnson

Johnson, BettyBetty J. Johnson, age 87 of Lincoln, passed away on the evening of Tuesday, September 1, 2015.  Betty was born in Fremont, NE on July 8, 1928 to Alfred and Vera (Totten) Callaway.

She is survived by son, Duane L. Johnson, Jr. (Suzy) of Lincoln, daughters Vickie Fisher (Rick) of Lincoln and Kandy Husbands (Jerry) of Gravois Mills, MO.  Grandchildren include Kevin (Valerie) Husbands of Olathe KS, Courtney (Billy) Sneed of Loganville GA, Kami Earleywine of Lincoln, Jami (Mike) Thomas of Lincoln, Robert (Amy) Walbridge  of Omaha, Aubree (Michael) Jacobsen  of Lincoln, Cory (Mallory) Johnson of Manhattan NY and Linnie (Jessie) Prochaska of Lincoln.  She had 12 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by husband, Duane L. Johnson, Sr. and daughter, Ginger Johnson.

Her burial took place at Wyuka Cemetery on Wednesday, September 2nd at 3:00 p.m. with family present.
