Victor S. McWilliams Sr.

McWilliams, VictorVictor S. McWilliams Sr. was born July 29, 1926 and was called home June 23, 2016 after a long battle against Alzheimer’s.  He was the youngest of 6 children born to John Jefferson and Sarah (Webster) McWilliams in Lincoln, Nebraska.  He attended Bancroft Elementary School, Whittier Junior High and Lincoln High School.  Victor was employed at Northwestern Metal Co. and was the Vice-President when he retired after 43 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers John J. McWilliams II, Theodore McWilliams, Henry McWilliams, sisters Helen McWilliams, Elizabeth (Lit) Green, Nephew Jo Nathan McWilliams and daughter Felicia S. McWilliams.  He leaves behind his son Victor S. McWilliams II (Latricia) of Raymond, Nebraska, daughters Cynthia Belford, E. Rose McWilliams and E. Ruth McWilliams of Lincoln, 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, niece Loretta McWilliams Russell of Lincoln, nephew Henry (Chipper) McWilliams (Deb) of Grand Island, Nebraska and a host of nephews, cousins, friends and family.

Victor was married to Juanita M. Walker for over 55 years.  He leaves to cherish his memory dear classmates Shirley Rife and Vernon Wilson, childhood and close friends, Hazel (Wilson) Anderson, Charles Baker, Pat Bluford, Charles Botts, Ledora Brown, Hobart Bradley, Roger Caulier, Jean I. Green, Gray Hill, Allen Jackson, Romayne Jackson, Albert Maxey, Ray McCray, Birdie Powell, Talmage Ricks, Toni Vinegar and Ida Washington.

He was a strong yet quite man and soft spoken, he loved spending time with family and friends.  The family would try to take a trip each year to visit family and friends.  Victor Played the jazz piano and became an avid photographer.  At the time of his death he was a member of Lincoln City Church.

Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Lincoln City Church, 5001 S. 1st Street, Lincoln.  Interment will be at Wyuka Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Friday, July 1st from 1:00-8:00 P.M. with the family greeting friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Wyuka Funeral Home.

Phyllis J. Lorraine

Phyllis Lorraine-001Phyllis Jean Lorraine, 84, born in Covington, Vir. a resident of Lincoln since 1951 died June 19, 2016. She attended Neb. School for the Blind and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.  Phyllis led a life dedicated to her family, loving every minute of being mother, grandmother, and aunt.

Preceded in death by husband, Daniel; parents W.G. and Lula (Keeling) Shanks; and great grandson Avery.

Survived by sons Dan (Julie) and Bill (Deanna); daughter Jean Rentfro; nine grandchildren; six great grands; sister Louise Van Bloom; brother Glenn (Kathryn) Shanks; and several nieces and nephews.

William H. Myers Sr.

Myers, WilliamWilliam H. Myers Sr. age 69 of Lincoln, passed away June 12, 2016.  He was a U.S. Navy Vietnam combat veteran and loving father.

Survived by son William H. Myers II and daughter Prudence A. Myers.

No services or visitation.

Richard J. Cubbison Sr.

CubbisonRichard J. Cubbison Sr. Age 94 passed away on June 11, 2016.  He was born March 14, 1922 in Lincoln to James and Esther (Anderson) Cubbison.  His wife Lucille preceded him in death on Nov. 6, 2007 after 64 years of marriage.  Richard served in the Marine Corp for 42 months in aviation maintaining F4U fighter planes during WW2.  In civilian life Richard was in the floor covering business under CUBS DIST., and earlier as A-1 Linoleum and Sherwin Williams Paints.

He is survived by his son Richard J. Cubbison  Jr. and wife Ellie of Westminster, Colorado.  His sisters Helen Balderson and Sally Stauffer preceded him in death.  Nieces Kay McCune of Bemidji Minn., Karen Johnston of Cortland, Ne., Leslie Booker, and nephew Jim Stauffer of Lincoln and their families also survive him in addition to several great nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Wyuka Funeral Home at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, June 20, 2016 with Rev. Dr. Neal Anthony of the Evangelical United Lutheran Church.

Memorials are to be sent to Smile Train for Children.

John V. Kitrell Jr.

Kitrell, John JrJohn V. Kitrell Jr. age 63 of Elmwood, accepted his wings on June 9, 2016, losing his battle to cancer.  He was born April 6, 1953 in Lincoln to John Sr. and Carrie (Lakey) Kitrell.

He is survived by his wife Diane, sons and daughters-in-law: Nathan and Courtney, Shawn and Connie, Chad and Melissa.  Daughters Ashley, Andrea and Brandy.  7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.  Sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Charles Sykes.  John is preceded in death by his parents and daughter Nicole.

Graveside services will be held at 3:30 P.M. on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Wyuka Cemetery.  John’s family will host a celebration of life gathering at the Red Cedar Lounge in Elmwood at 5:00 P.M. on June 29th, all are welcome to come share memories of John.

Memorials may be given to the family.

Myrtie Monia obit photoIola “Myrtie” Pray Monia, age 100, of Lincoln went to heaven peacefully surrounded by family on June 6, 2016. Born April 5, 1916 in Willow Springs, MO, daughter of George and Lulu Pray.  Married to Andrew Monia, 1934, in Lincoln.  She was a member of Eastern Star; a nurse aid and board member at Bryan Hospital; VFW Ladies Auxiliary; Havelock Methodist Church and St. Luke’s Methodist Church.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband Andrew; sons Andy and Roger; grandson Rodney Minzel; and son in law Dutch Buettgenbach.

Survived by her son Pete (Mary) Monia of Lake Havasu City, AZ; daughters, Myrtie Jean Buettgenbach, Andrea (Tom) Mills, and Sally Edwards, all of Lincoln; 8 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and 23 great great grands. It was Myrtie’s wish to be cremated.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Fri. June 10, at Wyuka Funeral Home, 3600 “O” St., Lincoln. Burial at a later date. www.wyuka.com

Susan M. McCullough

McCullough 2Susan M. McCullough, 98, of Lincoln passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2016.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband, John W. McCullough; eight of her nine siblings; and other beloved family members.

She is survived by her son, Rod (Julie) McCullough of Des Moines, IA and grandson Dylan McCullough (Steph) of Brooklyn, NY; daughter Margaret (Jim) Minary and grandson Jared (Margee) Minary with great grandchildren Christian, Celena, and Nora of Lincoln; grandson Thomas (Ilia) Minary and great grandson Charlie, of Lincoln; youngest sister Calore Van Houden of Noel, MO; and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Fri., June 10 at Southern Heights Presbyterian Church, 40th and Old Cheney, Lincoln. Pastor Leanne Masters officiating. Memorials to SHPC and Lincoln Community Playhouse.
