guardian angelAurora L. Lawless passed away October 12, 2016 at the age of 5 months.  She was born May 11, 2016 in Lincoln to Allen Lawless and Sierra Robinson.

Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, October 17th at Wyuka Funeral Home.  Interment will be at Wyuka Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 A.M. on Monday prior to the service.

Norrita A. Chick

October 10, 2016

Chick age 78 of Lincoln, passed away October 10, 2016.  She was born November 23, 1937 in Dunmore, Pennsylvania to Victor and Doris Ruth (Woodward) McCauley.  Norrita was married to George Chick in Scranton, Pennsylvania on June 19, 1954 and they were blessed with six children.  She was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, George Chick and their children and spouses, George S. Chick Jr.  Lucinda and Lars Davis, Michael W. Chick and Becky Chick, Stephen and Char Chick, Matthew and Chie Chick, Aileen Chick and her husband Douglas Hibbs.  Brother and sister-in-law, William and Loretta McCauley.  Grandchildren, Kelly Chick, Kevin Chick, Scott Davis, Robert Davis, Michael Davis, William Davis, Nichole Scoles, Ashley Chick and Tyler Chick.  Great grandchildren, Kristina Davis, Myla Davis, Elliana Davis, Quinton Davis, Amelia Davis, Blakely Davis, Alexa Massie, Kylie Massie and Isabella Scoles. Beloved cousin, Margaret Bowen.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 7601 Vine St. Lincoln.  The Rosary service will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Friday, October 14th at Wyuka Funeral Home.

Visitation will be at Wyuka Funeral Home on Friday, October 14th from 1:00-8:00 P.M.

Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Lincoln.

Memorials to the Providence Cancer Center,  4805 NE Glisan St.  Portland, OR 97213 for pancreatic cancer research.


Rodney “Rod” L. Larsen

laresen-rodney-obit-photoRodney Lee Larsen, age 59 of Lincoln, NE left this world to join our heavenly father on Thursday, October 6, 2016. Rodney, the fourth child of Theodore (Ted) and Bernadeen (Bernie) Larsen of Exeter, NE, was born on May 12, 1957 at Friend Memorial Hospital in Friend, NE. His baptism took place at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and his confirmation at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cordova, NE.


Rod faced challenges with disabilities, but his efforts to overcome them created a lasting and deep love for him from the many people who helped him over the years. Many coworkers, staff members, houseparents and housemates enriched Rod’s life just as he enriched theirs. They gave him a better life year after year and the family is deeply grateful for the love and care they showed him.

Rod’s family was his anchor, securing him with love and faith in Christ. Rod enjoyed the family’s gatherings and the joy he took from his siblings and generations of aunts, uncles, cousins and his nieces and nephew.

Rod enjoyed his employment at community workshops and earned the nickname”Flash” for his speed and enthusiasm. At home, he loved games of all kinds, racing cars. movies and bowling. Halloween became a big special occasion for him thanks to the love of his extended family of Sedric and LeeAnn Harvey, who both helped give him such a wonderful life in the last few years.

Rodney is survived by his mother Bernadeen Larsen; brothers Larry, Tom and Wayne (David Rush); sisters Connie (Pete) Kreifels and Karen (Craig Kenworthy) Larsen; nieces Jessica Kreifels and Jackie (Cole) Meyer; nephew David Larsen; great nephews Ellis and Leo Meyer and extended family Sedric, LeeAnn and Reece Harvey. He was preceded in death by his father Theodore Larsen and brother Ted Larsen.

A viewing will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, with funeral services provided at 10:30 a.m. at Wyuka Funeral Home in Lincoln at 3600 O Street. Committal services will be at Zastrow Cemetery near Cordova, NE, at 2 p.m. the same day. Shirley J. Barthelman

Barthelman age 71 of Lincoln, passed away October 3, 2016.  She was born February 6, 1945 in Oskaloosa, Iowa to Howard E. and Ruth Helen (Kerr) Barthelman.  Shirley was retired from the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Grand Island where she was the medical librarian.  She was a 1963 graduate of Oskaloosa High School.  In 1974, Shirley received her teaching certificate in History/Political Science from William Penn University, in 1976 she graduated from MidAmerica Nazarene University with a bachelor’s degree in history and in 1988 received her Masters of Library and Information Services from the University of Iowa.

Survivors include her Brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Barb Barthelman of Lincoln; Sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Keith Krumm of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Karen and William Ross of LaVista, Nebraska.  Many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, October 7, 2016 at Connecting Pointe Church of the Nazarene, 1901 S. 70th St.  Lincoln.

Inurment will be at 16 Cemetery in Thornburg, Iowa on Saturday, October 8th at 2:00 P.M.

Memorials to the family for a later designation.

skm_c284e16100411530_0001-001Robert “Bob” Carl Schwartz, age 81 and a resident of Lincoln since his birth in 1935, passed away Oct. 3, 2016. Bob attended Teacher’s College and started with Burlington Northern RR at age 16 as a coach cleaner and retired 44 years later as an Engineer. He really enjoyed family vacations; fishing trips to Canada; and wintering with his wife Barb in AZ; also cruising to Jamaica and Alaska. Bob lived life well.

He is preceded in death by father Louis Schwartz; mother Pauline (Brehm) Vandergriend and step-father Herman Vandergriend; brothers Alvin and Donald Schwartz; sister Wilma Schreiner; niece Janine Christman; and nephew Terry Loesing.

He is survived by his wife Barbara (Schleiger); daughters Vickie (Marty) Murray, Laura (Wayne) Pester, and Kris (Regan) Hubbard; 7 beloved grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Delores Schwartz; and his nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services: 11:00 am on Fri., Oct. 7, 2016 at Wyuka Funeral Home, 3600 “O” St., Lincoln.  Burial following in Wyuka Cemetery.  Memorials to the family for later designation in Bob’s honor.  Condolences www.wyuka.com
