Marie L. Payne

images[1]Marie L. Payne, age 82, of Lincoln, went home to Jesus July 23, 2017. WRV (002)-001Dr. William R. Vlasak, born in Lincoln on Dec. 7, 1952, passed away on July 15, 2017. He attended universities in Florida, Louisiana, Alabama, and Calif., studying various disciplines, he received his MD at Ross University in 2001.  Versed in many subjects of science and medicine, as well as in physical sports such as Judo and Karate where he excelled with gold and silver medals.  He was seriously injured in Karate with a reverse kick to the back, which limited his endeavors.  He was brave and strong, yet gentle and kind, and loved his pet dog very much.  He retired and returned to Nebr. and his parents Margaret and Dr. Weldon Vlasak on their farm near Clatonia.  His capabilities were diverse, helping with various tasks, and engineering projects.  During the last years of his life he was plagued with medical problems that led to his death.  Survived also by a sister, Jackie Sabold of Oregon.  He will be dearly missed by all family and friends.  Private Entombment on Tues., July 18, 2017 at Wyuka Cemetery’s Mausoleum, Lincoln, Nebr.

Alice M. Rathbun

Rathbun, AliceAlice M. Rathbun age 98 of Lincoln, passed away July 9, 2017.  She was born September 15, 1918 in Columbus, Nebraska to Leo and Lillian (Platte) Woerth.  Alice was an avid bowler and at the age of 72, rolled a 236.  She was also active in the Eagles Auxiliary and TOPS.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Nikki Rathbun of Lincoln.  Daughters and sons-in-law, Sue Rathbun and Gary Huff of Des Moines, Iowa; Lee and Del Meyer of Fremont, Nebraska.  Grandchildren, Ryan Rathbun, Anthony Jacobsen, Christopher Huff, Nicholas Huff, Shayla Bushhousen and Shannan Page.  8 Great grandchildren.  Brothers and sister-in-law, Joe Woerth of Bellevue, John and Barbara Woerth of Columbus.  Sisters-in-law, Stella Woerth of Lincoln and Patty Woerth of Shenandoah, Iowa.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Rathbun, her parents, sister, Lillian.  Brothers, Leo, Max, Fred, Charles and Valentine.

Rosary service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Cathedral of the Risen Christ.

Visitation will be from 1:30-2:30 P.M. at Cathedral of the Risen Christ.

Funeral Mass will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Thursday, July 13th at Cathedral of the Risen Christ.

Scott D. Mitchell

Mitchell, ScottScott D. Mitchell age 61 of Omaha, passed away July 6, 2017.  He was born December 14, 1955 in Lincoln to Jerry Mitchell and Leona (Jennings) Eyer.  Scott was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors: Daughters, Stephanie and Tiffany Mitchell both of Lincoln.  Brothers, Mike and Roger Mitchell of  Newburgh, Indiana.  Preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Wyuka Funeral Home.

Military service provided by U.S. Army honor guard.

Family requests no monetary donations be made.

Naoma A. Basler

Basler, NaomaNaoma A. Basler age 86 of Lincoln, passed away July 7, 2017.  She was born February 8, 1931 in O’Neill, Nebraska to Andrew and Myrtle (Henifin) Johnson.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Lawrence Basler of Lincoln.  Son and daughter-in-law, Andy and Donna Basler of Ceresco and their daughters and spouse Stephanie Seuferer, Jessica and Dustin Gushard.  Daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Kevin Fry of Lincoln and their children and spouses, Jason Davis, Amanda and Chris Hansen, Adam and Lauryn Nobbe.  Daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Mitch Gerdes of Crete and their children, Hannah Pinkerton, Lindsey Pinkerton and Ben Pinkerton.  Son, Jim Basler of Rockwall, Texas.  7 Great grandchildren.  Sister, LuEtta Curran of Columbus.  She is preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, July 10, 2017 at United Lutheran Church, 5945 Fremont St.  Lincoln.

Private family interment at Fairview Cemetery.

Jackson, BillWilliam B. “Bill” Jackson, age 65, of Lincoln, died July 1, 2017.  He was born October 31, 1951 in Valentine, Nebraska to Byron and Viola (Wondercheck) Jackson.  Bill worked at BNSF railroad for 29 years as a heavy equipment operator.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Larry Clymer of Lincoln.  Nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 7, 2017 at Wyuka Funeral Home

Visitation will held on Thursday, July 6, 2017 from Noon until 8:00 P.M. with family greeting friends from 6:00-7:00 P.M. at Wyuka Funeral Home.

Interment will be at Wyuka Cemetery.

LawsonJeannette Frances Lawson, age 94, of Lincoln, passed away on the afternoon of June 30, 2017. She was born in Kenesaw, Nebr. in 1922 to Charles and Caroline (Roberts) Eberline.  At age 3 the family moved to Lincoln with Jeannette holding the kerosene lantern in her arms the entire trip for her father.  She grew up in Lincoln and graduated from Lincoln High in 1940; she wed Eugene V. Lawson in 1941.  An avid Husker football fan, Royals baseball fan, and traveler – she loved golf, bowling and reading. Her career was as Media Audio Visual expert at the Lincoln Public Schools, retiring in 1994.

She is survived by her children Susan (Jerry) Bradford, Nancy (Boyd) King, Janet (Kent) Alderin, and Thomas (Kate) Lawson; daughters-in-law Patty Jo Lawson and Carol Lawson; grandchildren Willie, Michael, Daniel, and Samuel Lawson, Tim Klein, Tammy Carlson, Tiffany King, and Cathy Kottwitz; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Jeannette was predeceased by her husband Eugene V. (Gene) Lawson; brothers Charles and Bill, and sister Betty; and sons Don and Gerry Lawson, and grandson Ben Kottwitz.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on July 6, 2017 at Wyuka Funeral Home, 3600 “O” St., Lincoln with a viewing from 9:00-11:00 prior to the service, family present 10:00-11:00. Burial to follow in Wyuka Cemetery.

Kettler June 2017 (002)-001Opal Mae Kettler, 88, passed away peacefully June 29, 2017. Born October 7, 1928 in Omaha, NE to Myrtle and Monroe Wiles she grew up on her parent’s farm near Weeping Water, NE. She attended Chilton Country School, Weeping Water High School, and graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University with a degree in biology. She then attended Bryan School of Nursing in Lincoln, NE becoming a Registered Nurse in 1951. In 1952, she married Anthony (Tony) Kettler in Omaha, NE and together they raised six children. Opal loved working outdoors and spent many hours tending her flower gardens. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting and antiquing. She arranged many family trips and vacations while raising her family, and she and Tony travelled to several destinations around the USA in their retirement. Opal was preceded in death by her parents, sister Lois, brother Stanley and husband, Tony. Survivors: Children, Joseph A, Janice M, Thomas C Sr, (Rena), Teresa M Durrant Bachmann (Jim), Timothy A (Sally Cox), John F (Nanci); nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
