My heart was heavy when I heard the news, but I turned it around and wanted to celebrate him because he was such a wonderful soul. Rest in peace Freddie until we meet again

I have 2 favorite memories of Marilyn.
First, she kindly let our grandkids use her yard as a shortcut to Lux Middle School when they stayed here in our home. They would cut through her yard and hop the fence which came in handy on cold winter days and rainy days!
Also, Marilyn loved to keep an eye out for wildlife in the neighborhood. She would call me and say I don’t have time to talk, but you’ve got a fox in your yard. Check it out!
It was a pleasure to have known this fine lady.

Comment on Brian D. McGinley by Dan Kurmel https://www.wyuka.com/brian-d-mcginley/#comment-20191 Sat, 30 May 2026 15:52:28 +0000 https://www.wyuka.com/?p=14512#comment-20191 I first met Brian during my freshman year in UNL. I was squeezed as ‘third guy’ into a bigger two-person room. Through my new room mates LaDean and Kent, I met Brian.

Later that year, as some students departed college, a regular room opened up. Brian and I agreed to try rooming together, and we had a shared room for about a year and half. Brian was a good student, who was easily distracted by anyone’s interruptions for some student counseling, a late night chat, or prayer group. Brian followed his calling into both ministry and counseling, finally settling on a teaching degree, where he could influence young people and open their thinking about God.

After college, everyone goes the way their path splits, so I lost track of Brian as he moved to Texas. Later in life, we linked back up via email and a couple of calls…. then he moved back to Lincoln. His house in Texas was the ONE on the block with a Husker flag when the Google Map car drove by…. Always a Husker Fan! :)

My most sincere wishes of condolence for his family, and swift and safe passage to the Promised Land. We all hope to get there someday….. just maybe not yet.

Brian was a man fierce in his loyalty and beliefs but profoundly kind and gentle in his intent. His soul was like sunlight, forever burning bright. He will always remain in our hearts, however, the world is lessened by his demise. My most heartfelt thoughts are with all those who loved him.

She was always creating for us – dance, unusual treats and once she brought all of her leftover merchandise from the Nutshell for us all to take something. I enjoyed being around her and she was very gracious and loving. She lived a great life.

When Freddie wasn’t Driving the Senior Bus, you could find him helping at the senior center. I also went and spoke with him on Occassion at the Northeast Senior Center and He would be in the other room reading his book very seldom did he not have a book in his hand. When I received the call he had passed my heart was heavy. We Drove together several years Freddie really cared about the people he drove for. so I will celebrate all the good times we had together as coworker’s and cherish the memories. Freddie made a positive impact in my life. As a true friend and I will be forever grateful. Rest in peace until we meet again.. Red

I never got down there to see you again after Uncle George died, and I certainly meant to get to Lincoln one more time. You lived an incredible life… and finding out so much more here! My sister Pam was remembering the Nutshell yesterday. At least we kept in touch at Christmas. Can’t believe you made it all this way without moving out of your beloved home. Love you, say hi to everyone up with you in Heaven!
