Hulda Mary Helen (Bohling) Zier

Hulda Mary Helen (Bohling) Zier, daughter of Ernest F.C. and Dora (Hogrefe) Bohling, was born March 3, 1927 on a farm in Nemaha County, near Johnson, Nebraska.  She was one of seven children, and received her elementary education at the rural Dewey School.   She was baptized April 8, 1927 at St. Paul (Hickory Grove) Lutheran Church by Pastor Theodore Streng, and confirmed June 1, 1941 at St. Paul (Hickory Grove) Lutheran Church by Pastor B.C. Wiebke. At the age of seventeen, in 1944, Hulda moved to Lincoln, Ne. and took a housekeeping job at a University of Nebraska women’s dormitory.  During the first half of 1945, she worked at Gooch’s Mill before taking a job at Western Electric in July of 1945 where she worked for the next three years.  Hulda was united in marriage to Wesley LeRoy Zier Sr. on February 7, 1948 at St. Paul (Hickory Grove) Lutheran Church by Pastor W.A. Hummel.  To this union four children, Dennis, Carol, Gloriann and Wesley Jr., were born.  Hulda’s husband, Wesley, passed away November 30, 1979.  After their marriage, Wesley and Hulda made their home in Lincoln.  Hulda worked at the Elgin Company from September 1948 to November of 1949.  She stopped working outside the home from 1950 to 1960 in order to be a stay at home mother, but still took in laundry work and day cared children in order to provide extra income for her family.  In June 1960, Hulda took a job with the S.S. Kresge Co., where she worked for three years.  In 1963, she began 33 years of employment as a clerk and bookkeeper for the Schwarz Paper Company.  Hulda retired from Schwarz in 1996.  Hulda was an active member of the United Church of Christ in Lincoln, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid.  She was also a member of the American Business Woman’s Association and served two years as the chairperson for the ‘ways and means’ committee of that organization.  Hulda’s other main interests and hobbies included being a caregiver for elderly friends and family members, hosting family gatherings, babysitting for grandchildren and great-grandchildren, researching family history and attending family reunions, playing solitaire, and watching the ‘Jeopardy’ and ‘Wheel of Fortune’ shows.  After a battle with cancer Hulda passed away at her home in Lincoln on August 18, 2012.

Hulda was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Dora, her husband Wesley, brothers, Rudolph and Richard, and sisters, Viola Winter and Dorothy Kettelhut.  She is survived by sons Dennis (Priscilla Marshall) Zier of Golden, CO;  Wes (Jeannie) Zier of Lincoln; daughters Carol Jones of Lincoln; Gloriann (Dale) Nobbman of Pleasant Dale, NE; grandchildren, Matthew Zier, Kenneth (Paige) Jones, Noel (Patty) Jones, and Katelyne Jones; great-grandchildren, Isabella, Gabriella, and Jessica Zier; sisters, Alvina Kuhlmann, and Sophie Rizor; sister-in-laws, Betty Bohling and Geraldine Bohling,  Gloria (Bob) Bowers, Nancy (Les) Ebner; brother-in-law, William Zier; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 24, 2012 from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Wyuka Funeral Home.  The family will be present from 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2012 @ 10:30 A.M. at Wyuka Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Wyuka Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.

    Sorry to hear of your loss
    You may be sad now,but.. Memories and smiles of your mother will live on for years to come.

  3. Aunt Hulda was a loving and caring aunt; always had a smile and warm hug for me. She listened and gave great advice. I will miss her.
