Marjorie Ethel Kaufman age 92 of Lincoln, Nebraska died on Thursday, March 10, 2011 in Lincoln. She was born on August 23, 1918 in Ainsworth, Brown County, Nebraska to Thomas James and Ethel (Howerton) Clark. She lived her first 8 years on a farm north of Ainsworth, enjoying the country life—the animals, the groves of trees, the birds and the natural seasons. She attended a small country school. Marjorie enjoyed learning and all the other children. When she was eight years old, she and her parents, a brother, Marion, and a sister, Vera, moved to Cozad, Nebraska. She was always close to classmates, neighbors and friends. Marjorie was baptized into the Christian Church at age 12 and grew to love the Lord, and the people there. She taught rural schools for about three years in that area.
On May 31, 1939 she was married to Karl Kaufman at Norton, Kansas and they made their first home in South Gate, California until 1944 when they returned to Cozad, Nebraska. To this union there were six children: Karla Sue, Nancy Belle, John Stephen, Thomas James, Cynthia Lee, and David Karl. They lived in Cozad for a few years, then homesteaded in Cody, Wyoming and later again homesteaded in Rupert, Idaho. These were difficult years; however, they made lots of friends and they even helped build a new church in Rupert. They travelled along the coast up to Blaine, Washington and were so impressed with the natural beauty there, that they moved to Blaine Washington on the Canadian border next to Puget Sound–lovely country, lots of friends, and a happy life. Again they helped start a new church and Mom played the piano beautifully there for several years. In the 1990’s they began to see their family siblings slipping away and felt a longing to share more time with their family. They moved back to Cozad about 1992 and enjoyed retirement there. In early retirement they travelled to the west coast for a short while, also to Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, and Alabama and enjoyed all. Marjorie leaves her husband, the six children and their families. She will be deeply missed by her entire family who loved and appreciated all the caring and joy that she brought into their lives.
Marjorie is survived by her husband Karl of Lincoln; daughters, Karla (Jerry) Judt of Lincoln; Nancy (Lester) Morfin of Troy, Idaho; Cynthia (Doug) Murray of Bellingham, Washington; sons, John (Janann) Kaufman of Anchorage, Alaska; Tom (Shirley) Kaufman of Lincoln; David (Lonnie) Kaufman of Carnation, Washington; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Marion Clark and sister, Vera Whaley Yeiter.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 14, 2011 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at Wyuka Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 14, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Wyuka Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Wyuka Cemetery.
