Virginia Detore, 91, passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2022, in Omaha, Nebraska at Josie Harper Hospice House with family by her side. She was born in Blair, Nebraska November 11, 1930, to Hiram and Viola (Bradley) Shuey.
She served in the Air Force stationed in Ft. Myer, Arlington, VA. She held a secretary position at the Pentagon during the Korean conflict. She later was employed in different positions throughout her life including Secretary to Comptroller at Offutt AFB, Nebraska and Lincoln AFB, Nebraska, Loan Processor for the Veterans Administration office in Lincoln, Nebraska, Word Processor Technician for Union Pacific Industries in Omaha, Nebraska, and Secretary for the Radiology department at the University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Virginia was a hard worker, however her true passion was her family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother to her 8 children, 18 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Virginia enjoyed reading and re-reading her large library of Harlequin Romance books, playing BINGO, going out for breakfast at Village Inn, and spending time with her beloved family.
Virginia is preceded in death by her husband, Dominick Detore, her parents, Hiram Shuey, Viola Hamilton, and William Hamilton, brothers, James Shuey, Laverne Shuey, Alexander Shuey, Robert Rollin Valentine (Shuey), stepson Daniel Detore, and great grandchild Jayci Yaeger.
Survivors include her children, Catherine Yaeger of Lincoln, NE, William (Nancy) Detore of Spanaway, Washington, Joyce (Steven) Steyer of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Donna Deloske of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, Diana (Leonard) Clapper of Omaha, Nebraska, Sandra (Richard) Brown of Bellevue, Nebraska, stepson, Thomas (Eileen) Detore of Columbia, Missouri, daughter-in-law Rebecca Detore of Lincoln, Nebraska, siblings, Joyce Turner (Shuey), Norma (William) Wever (Shuey), Shirley Meyers (Shuey), Jerry (Serena) Miller (Shuey), and Theodore (Diane) Schulz (Shuey), and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
The family will be having a graveside service only at Wyuka Cemetery, 3600 O Street in Lincoln, Nebraska at 12:00pm, Friday, September 16, 2022. Family and friends should arrive at the Cemetery’s main entrance by 11:30am. A funeral procession will commence at 12pm to the gravesite where the graveside service will be held.
