Bill F. Payzant, 69, of Lincoln, passed away unexpectedly on November 22, 2023, joining his son, Tyler, and granddaughter Lily in the arms of Jesus. Born on April 9, 1954, in David City, Nebraska, to Bill and Ruth (Nichols) Payzant, Bill lived a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments.
Bill was a man of many passions. Whether he was casting a line into the water, perfecting his swing on the golf course, or drumming away with his bandmates, he approached life with a zest that inspired those around him. His eyes lit up when he spoke about his love for Jesus, and his testimony was a testament to the faith that guided him.
A natural storyteller, Bill regaled friends and family with tales from his childhood, creating a tapestry of memories that will forever be woven into the fabric of those who knew him. He took immense pride in his children and grandchildren, frequently sharing stories that allowed his joy to overflow. For Bill, the true source of happiness was his immediate family, and the love he showered upon them was immeasurable.
Bill is survived by his devoted wife, Karen Payzant, whose love and companionship enriched his life. His legacy lives on through his daughter and son-in-law, Dave and Season Epp, and his daughter and son-in-law, Justin and Shawna White. He also leaves behind a legacy of love in his grandchildren: Abby, Raegan, Hunter, Dylan, Beau, and Gavin.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be announced at a later date, providing an opportunity for friends and family to come together and honor the impact he had on their lives. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorials for further designation, offering a way for loved ones to contribute to the lasting legacy of a man whose spirit will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew him.
When I read of Bill’s passing, I was saddened. He was a man of many travails, who always seemed to make the best of things and push on, with a glad heart. We traveled a few backroads together in the band years; he was an outstanding companion for any journey. Godspeed, old friend!
This breaks my heart. Bill was always upbeat, encouraging and loved life. I’m glad the Good Lord put him into my life for a season. My condolences to Karen and all of his family. Rest well Bill.

I was very sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. I remember him and his family from their time in Schuyler.

Even though its been years since I had talked to him, I will always remember his great personality, wit, and most of all his kindness. Your memory will always be with us, Rest in Peace old friend.
I remember that he was a quite talented artist.
I remember his band playing “‘ Mony Mony” many times in their garage and I can never hear that song without thinking of Bill. Very talented man.
I remember his great talents as an artist and a musician. The funny drawings he did in class when we were supposed to be paying attention. What I remember most about Bill….. that is his ever ready smile, his sense of fun, and his wanting to share that fun with everyone around him. As much as anyone I’ve ever known, there truly was a twinkle in his eye. Even on those few occasions when the rest of his face wasn’t actually smiling, you could see a big grin lurking in his eyes, with a friendly laugh ready to follow, if life gave him the slightest chance to let them out. I am so thankful that I was fortunate enough to have someone like that by my side during many of the formative years of my life.
I remembered his humor and creative artistry. He was one in a million! My sympathy to his family.
Bill you were such a gentle soul. I loved celebrating 4th of July’s in the neighborhood with you and Karen and all the fun that came with watching you drum away! There were countless laughs when you were around. You always made us feel like family and my boys loved you. Rest in peace dear friend.
I was so sad to learn of Bill’s passing. I was blessed with spending a lot of time with Bill as a neighbor and band mate. Bill had an amazing outlook on life and carried a smile with him wherever he went. Story time with Bill is still one of best moments we shared. His passion and “attention to detail” in some stories made you feel like you were there with him. I even had the chance to fish with him a couple times in his old boat that I now have. And my friend, I am renaming it “The JaBilly” in your honor. Inside joke between us. Bill you are surely missed by a lot of great people you touched.
