June 21, 1934 – August 31, 2024

Marilyn Ann (Kyes) Kroeger, age 90, died Saturday, August 31, 2024, in Elkhorn, Nebraska.

Born and raised on a farm near Archer, Nebraska, Marilyn learned the value of hard work and developed a foundation of diligence and commitment that would serve her well throughout her life.

Arriving June 21, 1934, Marilyn was the second of three daughters born to Leonard and Mabel (Funk) Kyes. Marilyn graduated from Central City High School in May of 1951 and went on to graduate from Nebraska Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree in May of 1955. During her years at Nebraska Wesleyan University, Marilyn was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, Future Teachers of America, Psi Chi, and was honored as homecoming queen her senior year.

Marilyn married Gerald (Jerry) L. Kroeger on December 22, 1954. A dedicated educator, Marilyn taught at the elementary school level and in later years served as a paraprofessional before retiring from Lincoln Public Schools.

Marilyn was an avid gardener, gifted seamstress, and lifelong Methodist. She especially enjoyed reading, needlepoint, and working on jigsaw puzzles. Idle is not a word that would describe Marilyn as she was diligent in her love for and commitment to her family, parents, home, church, friends, and pets.

Marilyn is survived by her children: Susan Donahue of Omaha, Nebraska; Kim (Steve) Hameloth of Grand Island, Nebraska; David (Suzi) Kroeger of Omaha, Nebraska; and Julie Erickson of Lincoln, Nebraska. She was a proud grandmother to 12 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 16 great-grandchildren.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Arlayne (Kyes) Bonness, and sister, Alice Jean Kyes.

A private family memorial service and interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Wyuka Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
