Donna June Hinkley

Donna June Hinkley, 90, of Lincoln, NE passed away on September 16, 2024. She was born on June 15, 1934, to Emery and Rose (Whitney) Blue.

Donna was a passionate real estate professional, having worked as a realtor for over 40 years. She served as the President of the Realtors Association and was also an active member of the NIFA Board.

In addition to her career, she was a devoted fan of Nebraska sports, particularly Husker football, men’s and women’s basketball, soccer, and volleyball. She frequently attended games and proudly supported the teams.

She was a docent at the History Museum and was involved in the Pioneer Games. Her love for gardening was also evident in her volunteer work at the Sunken Gardens and Rose Garden, where she dedicated her time to tending to the grounds and sharing her knowledge with visitors. She especially enjoyed weeding and caring for the rose bushes, where she would often meet with garden-goers on Saturday afternoons to answer questions.

Donna was also a skilled bridge player and a member of a pinochle group. She loved playing the organ with her organ group and had a deep appreciation for music. Among her favorite artists were Elvis Presley and Elton John, whose performances she attended in person.

She graduated from LHS and was deeply involved in her community through various activities and organizations.

Donna is survived by her loving husband, Lloyd, and her daughters, Christine (Jon) Kunz and Jane Somerhiser. She is also survived by her stepsons, Kim Hinkley, Gary (Suzanne) Hinkley, David (Judy) Hinkley, and Ron (Tony) Hinkley. She was a devoted grandmother to her grandson, Sam Somerhiser, as well as her 9 step-grandchildren. And numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Loren, and her sister Kay Schenck.

A celebration of Donna’s life will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at Country Club of Lincoln, 3200 S 24th St. from 2 PM to 5 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to your charity of choice in Donna’s name.

  3. Such a cherished and dear friend to us as with so many others. Throughout the decades with our Realtor endeavors and activities, to our love of Husker sports, namely softball in which she always snuck in some cookies to share with us and most recently as a pinochle club member. Donna will be greatly missed and remembered forever.

  6. I was so sorry to read of Donna’s passing in today’s paper. Dick and I always enjoyed running into the Hinkley’s at the basketball games. Donna was one of our favorite patients and I’ll always remember her with a smile on her face. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Vicki Powell
