Glenda F. Ballentine

Glenda F. (LaFon) Ballentine, a beloved wife, mom, grandma, and great-grandma passed away on Friday, November 22nd, 2024, at the age of 84. Glenda was born in 1940 in Gladewater, TX to Sherman and Beulah LaFon. After graduating from Covington High School, Glenda attended Business School in Enid, OK. While waiting for a train to take her from Perry, OK to Ponca City, OK Glenda met a handsome sailor at a burger drive-in. They became pen pals and in 1959, she married James L. Ballentine, Sr. They raised four children together; daughters, Carol, Joannie, and Diane and son Jim, Jr.

They came to Lincoln in 1962 where mom was a homemaker and ironed clothes for extra money. Later, she worked part-time at Knights Family Store, Ben Franklin’s, Lincoln Public Schools, Miller & Paine Distribution Center and Dillard’s before she helped dad with antiquing. Mom and Dad spent over 30 years going to sales and flea markets all over the country and met many dear friends.

Glenda loved sewing, quilting, reading and playing the accordion & piano! Most of all she loved people and never knew a stranger! She also gave the best hugs in the world – you knew you were loved and everyone loved Mom! She was a proud mom and grandma that attended all of her children’s and grandchildren’s events. We were blessed to have her for 84 years.

Glenda was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers Clyde Bruce and Donal LaFon; sisters-in-law Deanie Bruce and Jean LaFon. She is survived by children; Carol (Mickey) Muthersbaugh, Joannie (Ron) Kohel, Diane McCormick and James (Jennie) Ballentine, Jr.; grandchildren, Nick and Samantha Muthersbaugh, Race and Maria Kohel, Jessie Clemens, Kylie Ballentine, Taryn (Simeon) Tyshkun, Lexi (Ruslan) Brychka; Kaleigh (Rylan) Sanders, and Ashlyn Ballentine; great-grandchildren, Roselina and DJ all of Lincoln; sister-in-law Sharry Henke of Beaver Crossing; many relatives and friends.
