William “Bill” Frederick Haeder was born on June 9, 1949, to Paul and Phyllis Haeder in Huron, SD. He grew up on a farm near Wolsey, SD until the age of 2. His family moved to Vermillion, SD where he spent most of his growing up years. Bill’s last two years of high school were spent in Ames, IA, where he graduated from Ames High School in 1967.
Bill’s family then moved to Omaha, NE, where Bill received his degree in Biology from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. While in Omaha, Bill met his wife Linda, and they were married on June 14, 1969 between his sophomore and junior years of college. They had two children, Amy, born in 1972 and Adam, born in 1974.
Bill worked for Production Credit Association as a farm loan officer in Huron, SD, before making the decision to move to his wife’s homebase in Iowa. He worked as a production supervisor in the pharmaceutical lab of Fort Dodge Laboratories for 2½ years before finding a farm to rent and becoming an Iowa farmer raising corn, soybeans, cattle and hogs. He was a farmer for 40 years, and the last 18 years of that he also worked as a correctional officer at the men’s prison in Rockwell City, IA. After retirement he helped other farmers at harvest time for the next 13 years. Bill and Linda moved to Lincoln, NE in 2018.
Bill enjoyed playing golf, cribbage and euchre. He especially loved his grandchildren Madison (husband Moris), Arin, Brayden (fiancé Hazel), Ethan (wife Bri), Stanley, Stefon, and Violet with all their activities. He also loved playing with and reading to his great-granddaughter Luna Grace.
He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, enjoying membership in six different congregations.
He was preceded in death by a sister and five brothers-in-law. He is survived by his wife Linda, daughter Amy of Euless, TX, son Adam and daughter-in-law Tina of Bellevue, NE, sister Allison Winaker of Danville, CA, sister Paula Metcalf of Lincoln, NE, sister-in-law Karen Blaas of Rockwell City, IA, and sister-in-law Lorraine Blaas of Fort Worth, TX.
Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 24, 2025 at Faith Lutheran Church, Lincoln.
