Hazel Joan (Morrow) Carmichael, age 82 of Lincoln formerly of Stromsburg passed away May 23, 2013 in Lincoln, NE. Hazel was born in Beatrice, NE February 1st, 1931 to Thomas Newton and Anna Marie (Hennecke) Morrow. She attended school in Beatrice and later in Shelby where she graduated from High School in 1949. On October 7, 1950 she was united in marriage to Lloyd Wesley Carmichael in Nemaha, NE. While married four children were born. Della Joan, Todd, Dollie and Joel. Hazel was an active person in Stromsburg. Lloyd and Hazel owned and operated Lloyds Sinclair, Hazel drove school bus for the Stromsburg Public Schools and has taken hundreds of Stromsburg children to their first day of kindergarten in what was then known as the “Diaper Wagon” and special needs children to York. She drove over 750,000 plus miles in 24 years and prided herself for not having an accident in all of those years. When festival time came she was known for being the Salmon Lady, baking salmon for many years for the smorgasbord. Her hobby was her sewing machine and probably put more miles on those machines than she did the school busses. Hard work never bothered Hazel and she was always busy, she was an active member of Salem Lutheran and assisted where she could. Hazel was always known as the go to person if you needed anything sewn whether it was alterations or bridesmaid dresses she could always be counted on. Her heart for this hobby was proof when her Grandson asked if she would help out with swing choir dresses, these outfits were a great benefit to the show choir at Schuyler Central High School, she always loved doing for others.
Hazel is survived by children Todd (Michelle) Carmichael of Great Falls, MT; Dollie (Duane) Bergers of Lincoln, NE; Joel (Kathy) Carmichael of Fayetteville, NC. Grandchildren Darrin & Dillon Bergers both of Lincoln, NE and Step-Grandchildren Seth Bergers of Austin, TX; Monica Bergers of Iowa City, IA; Cory & Ryan Shellenberger of Casper, WY.
