Dolores Fannie Mae Tucker, was born June 25, 1924, she was the first born to Edwin and Juanita McGhee of St. Louis, MO. Dolores was sister to Edwin McGhee Jr. of Meza, AZ and Marcella Foster of Lincoln. She was wife to Wilbert Griggsby who preceded her in death. And to Walter Tucker, Jr. of Lincoln whom she married in 1967, who also preceded her in death. She was Significant other and companion to Thurmond Hoskin of Lincoln until his death in 2005. Dolores was Mom to Diane Ponder of Detroit, MI; Wilbert Griggsby, Jr. (Donnie) and Danny Tucker of Peru, IN. She was grandmother to Karin Gantt, Marc Moore, Kenneth Ponder, Jr. and Donald Ponder all of Detroit; Danny Tucker, Jr. of Lincoln; Savanah, Kaylen and Jazmyn of Peru, IN and a host of great grandchildren. Dolores was best friends to Wright and Vivian Robinson, Willa Jean Davis and Connie Folks all of Lincoln who all preceded her in death. She graduated in 1943 from Vashon High School in St. Louis, MO. She graduated from George Althouse Beauty School specializing in hair care and cosmetology. She moved to Lincoln in 1953 and established a beauty salon in her home, which was frequented by most of the minority community in Lincoln. She also enjoyed her life work at the Nebraska Center for Children, where she worked for 15 years, retiring in 1968. In addition she worked for Thorton Podiatry for 3 years as a Podiatrist Assistant. She was a loyal member and supporter of Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church in Lincoln. Dolores was a devoted mother who was totally dedicated to the activities of raising her children. She was an active member of the Lincoln Elks Lodge #390. She was most proud of her accomplishments of interacting and taking care of the children at the Nebraska Center for Children. Dolores was well known throughout the Lincoln community as a hostess and the parties she put on were eagerly awaited and enjoyed by everyone who attended. She could always be counted on for advice and assistance. Who was Dolores Tucker? She was a supportive wife, a dedicated mother, a faithful sister and loyal friend, who upon her death was most proud of her relationship with her children, her family, her friends and with God.

A memorial service for Dolores will be held on Monday, July 8, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. in the chapel at Wyuka Funeral Home. There will be no viewing or visitation, Dolores wished to be cremated and be interred in the same section at Wyuka Cemetery as her mother, Juanita McGhee.

Memorials may be given to the National Council of Negro Women in Dolores’ name.
