Jerry Hugh Hamilton, age 79 of Lincoln, was sent to God’s side on May 10, 2015 at his home. Jerry was born Feb. 7, 1936 in Lanett, AL to Tommy Lee and Elizabeth (Lashley) Hamilton.
Jerry lived a remarkable life. He retired from the United States Air Force after proudly serving 20 years, including serving in Vietnam with the 555th Red Horse, Cam Rahn Bay. Jerry loved his job as Deputy Sheriff for Troup County Georgia where he trained and ran the canine unit, D-9 K-9, under Sheriff Jones. He was also a Federal Police Officer at the Lincoln Veteran’s Hospital for 8 years where he cared for and protected everyone who came across his path including many nurses and staff that he developed life-long friendships with.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed. Special thanks to his Oncology Nurse, Sarah Keller at LVA and Saint Elizabeth’s Progressive Care Unit & Hospice Team for their loving care.
Long-term Lincoln resident, survived by his beloved wife Charlene of 58 years; son Greg (Alyce) Hamilton and family of Denver; daughter, Julie (Steve) Lillich and family of Lincoln; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeffrey Hamilton; five brothers; and three sisters.
Military Graveside Service at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, May 15th at Fairview Cemetery, 84th & Adams St., Lincoln; meet and process from Wyuka Funeral Home, 3600 “O” St. at 3:00 p.m. Supper Reception at Wyuka Stables, 3600 “O” St., following the service. There will be a Visitation from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thurs. May 14th at Wyuka Funeral Home. Memorials to the Wounded Warriors Project.
