Charles Curtin, 94, of Lincoln (formerly of Sterling), left us to join the Lord on Feb. 10, 2017. He was born Feb. 3, 1923 to Cornelius and Maude (Davis) Curtin. Charlie graduated from Sterling High School in 1941, and served in WWII with the 5th Army Division from 1943-45 in Italy and No. Africa. Returning home, he married Mary June Lambert in 1946, and to this union were born 3 daughters.
He farmed for several years before becoming a rural postal carrier for 40 years, and received recognition for his safe driving of over 1,000,000 miles. Charlie was an avid golfer, card player, bowler and fisherman, and always looked forward to his annual Canada fishing trip. He was elected to the Sterling School Board, was a member of the VFW Post 8221 Tecumseh and Am. Legion Post 140 Sterling, was a volunteer fire fighter, a Mason, and was on the Methodist Church Board.
Charlie cared for and had a great love for all animals and had a variety of pets throughout his lifetime.
He is survived by his wife Mary; daughters Cynthia (Rodney) Schwartz, Patricia Curtin, and Susan (James) Powers; 8 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and brother Keith Curtin.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, Feb 14, 2017 at St. Mark’s Methodist Church, 8550 Pioneers Blvd, Lincoln, with a social gathering following the service. Cremation, no visitation. Memorials in Charlie’s memory can be given to the family for donation to the Humane Society. Condolences at www.wyuka.com

MARY, I can’t begin to tell you how saddened I was to hear of Charlie’s passing. Barb and I were just saying on Friday that we needed to come up and visit after hearing he was place in hospice. I have so many memories of Charlie, many began when I was a little kid waiting out by the mailbox for him to deliver the mail and we always,always got a piece of candy. Also when Mom was unable to go to the mailbox Charlie would bring the mail to her, that was Charlie, and so you know my excitement when I got to be your neighbors, Charlie saluting my Flag every Memorial Day Morning or reminding me to get my flag put up, Mary you and Charlie had such a great impact on both our lives and the great role models you both were on my kids growing up, watching them playing ball out on the driveway, honestly I can go on and on, we are so blessed beyond belief for having Charlie and how he impacted our lives it goes beyond words. God bless you Mary and your family we shall never know another like him. With our deepest sympathy.

So sorry to hear about Charlie. What a good man and like a brother to our Dad, Everett Parminter! We have such great family memories, especially the Memorial Day visits to Sterling! And when Dad would recall fun times with Charlie, we’d be in tears laughing!!
