Daniel R. Weins, 36, passed away unexpectedly at his home on May 3, 2020. Born on December 9, 1983, in Lincoln, NE to William and Kathryn (Eckles) Weins, Dan was always an active child with a love of the outdoors, exploring, biking and sports. He was active in Scouts through 6th grade and participated in the YMCA Indian Guides with his father where he loved to camp and race cars. He played several sports through his life but his favorite was baseball. He played for Lincoln East and then Lincoln High where he graduated from in 2002. Dan also loved travel and had several special family trips growing up; his favorites were Hawaii and France. He was social throughout his life which made it easy for him to make friends. No matter what Dan faced in his life, he always had the want and ability to overcome.
Dan attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business and Marketing. He went on to work as a Cybersecurity Engineer. He discovered he had a love for technology and was constantly willing to learn more about his field. He would often work with the FBI in dealing with cybersecurity threats. He was actively pursuing his Master’s in the field at the time of his death.
Dan was loved by many people. He was an amazing husband, father, son, uncle, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend. He is survived by his wife Tamara (Suhr) Weins, sons Connor (4) and Logan (2), mother Kathryn Weins, Lincoln; sister Katie (Daniel) Hansen, Lincoln; Grandparents Kenneth and Donna Eckles, Omaha, NE; sister-in-law Lisa (Johnny) Andersen, Crystal Lake, IL; niece Ellie Andersen, Crystal Lake, IL; nephews Jude and Zachary Hansen, Lincoln; Carter Andersen, Crystal Lake, IL; aunts and uncles Jim and Sue Pfeister, Sioux City, IA; Sheri Cackin, Omaha, NE; Susan Eckles, St. Louis, MO; David Eckles, San Francisco, CA; mother and father-in-law David and Lana Suhr, Lincoln, NE; as well as numerous cousins, including the “cousin club” as well as their families.
