Wanda Darlene Hedges, 91, of Lincoln (formerly Bennet), passed away on February 4, 2021 at Bryan East Medical Center due to complications from COVID-19.
Visitation will take place on Monday, February 8 from 10-5 at Wyuka Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 9 at the funeral home with Reverend Darin Corder officiating. Burial will follow in Bennet Cemetery. Casual dress is requested. Wanda was born on November 26, 1929, to John and Lyda (Ruhs) Wolzen at Hendley, Ne. She was united in marriage to Gerald Hedges on April 9, 1950, at Hendley. They moved to Lancaster County in 1955 and lived in Lincoln and Martell before moving to Bennet in 1962. She was an active member of the Bennet Community Church and a Sunday School teacher for many years. Wanda was also a charter member of Bennet Community Builders Club from 1965-2006, and active in community projects. She and her husband, Gerald, moved to Waterford Assisted Living in 2012.
She is survived by her daughters Alice (Rex) Mihulka, Phyllis (Bill) Kingery, and Marge (Cary) Petersen; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother Stanley (June) Wolzen of Dixon, Il as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband Gerald and son John.
Memorials may be made to the Bennet Community Church, People’s City Mission, or the Food Bank of Lincoln. The family wishes to thank all of the staff at Waterford Assisted Living facility in College View for all of the love and care given to our Mom.

So very sorry to hear of Wanda’s passing. I was honored to provide a little musical entertainment for her and others at the Waterford for several years and was grateful for the opportunity. I always looked forward to her smiles and will miss her when I’m able to return.
My mother lived with Wanda (and for a short time Gerald) at The Waterford for several years. My mother actually died on the same date as Wanda, 3 years ago. Wanda was such a positive, spirited, interesting, & kind woman…who I looked forward to chatting with whenever I was at The Waterford. I tried to bring some enrichment to her life sometimes with crafts & an occasional outing, but she was the one who did the enriching…of MY life. I watched her family bless her and she her family in that short time. May the strength, influence & good memories of your loved one carry you all forward to be a blessing to all you meet!

So many wonderful memories from my childhood of this caring, loving, and Godly woman. Summer visits will always be cherished. Truly my favorite Aunt, one that cared for my well-being and my salvation as a child during rough times. I know in my heart that she has been welcomed by our Lord with open arms into eternal peace and rest!
What a beautiful memorial service! I’m so glad her final memories were officiated by a Pastor that was new her so well and was obviously a friend and confidant! P.S. I’ve been to Wilsonville!
