Carolyn Rodaway, Lincoln, passed away April 15, 2021 at the age of 95. She was born February 10, 1926 near New Market, Iowa to Glenn and Ruby (Peterman) Combs. Carolyn graduated from high school in 1943 and moved to Omaha, Nebraska for training at Western Union Telegraph Company. This was a World War II job with a locked workplace and security entrances to the worksite. After training was completed, she was employed as a telegraph operator in Omaha and Chicago until November 1948. Employees were laid off following the end and final phases of WWII.
In 1949 Carolyn met Roy Rodaway in Omaha. They were married in February 1950 and had four children, Keith, Betty, Lana and Nora. By 1954 they had settled in the Fremont, Nebraska, area. Carolyn moved to Lincoln in 2005 to be near family.
Carolyn was a working mom when most mothers stayed at home. Her last position was with the Social Security Administration before she retired in 1988. Hobbies included spending time with family and friends, reading, doing crossword puzzles, watching movies, and working on the computer. Carolyn and Roy enjoyed their travels across the United States, including trips to Disneyland with family and to Salt Lake City to research family tree information. She enjoyed researching their family trees and investigating family tree data for extended family members.
Grandma Carolyn very much enjoyed the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Keith and Debbie have three boys, Jason, Brian and Brad. Betty and Joe have a son, Michael, and daughter, Karen. Lana married Marshall Holstein. They adopted three children, Jennifer, Dustin and Jessica. Unfortunately, Lana passed away in 1990 due to complications of diabetes. Nora married Randall Schenk in 1998.
