Carren J. Miller of Lincoln, Nebraska passed away Tuesday, November 3. Born on December 24, 1942 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Carren was, in the words of a dear friend, gracious and creative to the end. Her years of work in Public Television enabled countless children to enjoy programs including Reading Rainbow. She was an enthusiastic and discerning patron of the arts, and was committed to sharing this passion through her time as a docent for Sheldon Museum of Art, her work with the Lincoln Arts Council and patronage of countless local artists. She brought an appreciation for loveliness and attention to detail to everything she did. She was an avid traveler, a keen reader, and a consummate host. Her many loved ones will remember her devastating wit, her seemingly-effortless generosity, and the energy she brought to any room she entered. Above all, they will remember her devotion to those she loved, chief among them her sons Dane and Graeme, and her husband Tice, her constant companion of 57 years.
Carren is survived by her husband Tice, her sons Dane (Lauren Leverone) and Graeme (Bevin Blaber), her sister Katy Rice, and countless beloved friends. She is predeceased by her sister Cheryl Hammerstrom and her parents Milton and Alice Hammerstrom.
Arrangements are being handled by the family. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there will not be a wake and the funeral service will be private. A memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carren’s name to The Sheldon Museum of Art and the Lux Center for the Arts.
Always a bright fun Lady to chat with. Very talented. Loved all things wonderfully.
Carren was a wonderful and loving friend. I will miss her laugh and her sense of humor! I will miss our discussions and intelligent views and opinions on so many things. It’s rare to find a such a gifted, kind, and witty person.
Carren was always such an interesting person to talk to; no matter who you were she could converse with you. It was always a treat to have her at gatherings.
Our sympathy from all the Managers and Associates at Panera Bread on Pine Lake. Carren and Tice have been regular customers for many many years. Carren’s smile will be missed.
Carren was fabulous. An explosion of amazing personal style, great fun and impeccable taste. She influenced me greatly. Sending love and condolences to Tice and family.
When Carren entered the room, it immediately felt like the party had finally started. She was such an amazing presence, exuding energy, fun and happiness. You couldn’t help but be drawn to her. Most of all, it was clear how much she adored her family and we join them in their sorrow and terrible loss. We were lucky to have known her even for a short time.
I was so sorry to read the news about Carren. Her liveliness, her sparkle, her laugh made this world brighter. She will be missed.
Carren searched for beauty and helped us see more of it too.

Tice & Family, Sydney and I were so so sorry to hear of Carren’s passing. She was so endearing, honest, energetic and witty. We will miss seeing the two of you together at art openings, theater events, etc. Please know that our warmest thoughts and memories of Carren are embracing you and your boys.
Deepest Condolences. I will miss Carren’s visits to Walt Library.
Remembering Carren and a road trip to Manhattan, Kansas (we would have preferred the other Manhattan) to visit an artist’s studio, of course. We talked about everything from food, family, art, philosophy, the bible and on and on. It was so intense that I got a speeding ticket half way home. Carren helped me host my MA graduation party in 2000. She was the queen of aesthetics and such an amazing hostess herself. Tice and Carren threw fabulous parties and I feel so lucky to have been part of them. I put a little fresh mint in my fruit compote this morning, in memory of Carren. Sending my deepest sympathy to Tice and your dear sons Dane and Graeme, who she adored.
Somehow I missed this, I send love to Tice, Dane, and Graeme. The photo of Carren is wonderful.
