Constance J. Walters

Constance “Connie” Walters, 75, passed away on August 6, 2024, at Bryan Hospital in Lincoln, NE.  She was born June 13, 1949, in Lackawanna, NY to John J. and Mary L. Trotta.

Connie had a loving personality, always willing to help others.  She had a large number of friends that loved her dearly.  Her personality and love of life made it easy for people to become her friend.  Her constant willingness to help and easy-going style is one of her features that people remember most.

Before retiring, Connie had made a career in Respiratory Therapy, working at Bryan Hospital for 39 years.  Initially trained in Long Beach, CA; she worked as a Respiratory Therapist in “California for about a decade, then moved to Nebraska and worked in the Ogallala Hospital for about a year.  She then moved to Lincoln to take a position with Bryan Hospital, where she worked until she retired.

She was a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, rising to the position of Flotilla Commander.  She served as an active member of the Auxiliary for 30 years.  Over the course of her adventures, she served in many positions, but her favorite was boating patrols allowing her to help other boaters in distress or in need of assistance.  Boating safety and assisting the general public in regard to boating was a highlight of her day.

Religion was a central aspect of solace in Connie’s life.  Her rapport with God gave her great consolation throughout her life.  Connie was born, baptized, raised, trained and confirmed in the Roman Catholic Church, and cherished the comfort she felt from her religious beliefs.  She never imposed her views on others, instead, she held Jesus close to her heart as her guardian and guide.

Traveling was one of Connie’s most cherished adventures.  In her life, she visited nearly all of the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii.  She visited several foreign countries, with Italy being the one she remembered most passionately.

While in Ogallala, Connie met her husband, Henry L. Walters; and together they enjoyed 44 wonderful years.  They had no children.  Connie and Henry were the best of friends and trusted companions.  Henry was very proud and extremely honored to have such a loving relationship with Connie.  They deeply loved and respected each other and were blessed with happiness throughout their life together.

Connie is survived by one sister, Theresa Poynter of Arizona, and one brother, John Anthony “Tony” Trotta of Big Springs, NE; her mother, Mary Lou Rice; and numerous family members and friends.  She was preceded in death by her father, John Trotta.

At Connie’s request, no funeral service or gravesite ceremony was held.  Connie wanted people to remember her as she was in life and maintain pleasant thoughts and memories of her.  Her last thoughts and comments were thankfulness for the friends and family she loved so dearly.

Connie will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
