Douglas Conrad Maier, of Lincoln, passed away July 6, 2023. He was born March 7, 1953, to Gene and Ruth (Wolph) Maier, in the Panama Canal Zone, where his father was stationed in the U.S. Air Force. They moved back to Iowa a year or so later. Doug’s childhood was very normal, with a few bumps and bruises along the way, but nothing serious. In his youth, Doug participated in cub scouts, worked a paper route and helped his father at the gas station.
Doug was a sweet, kind and sensitive person who loved his family very much. He especially cherished the time he was able to spend with his nephew, niece and great-nephew Caden, who meant very much to him. He loved playing games with his family, where his knowledge of geography and history lent to many wins of the game Trivial Pursuit.
Never held down in one place, Doug worked a variety of jobs, including one of his favorites, Catholic Social Services. Doug was a big fan of Nebraska Husker Football and shared his love of NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt with his father.
Doug is survived by his mother, Ruth Maier; two sisters, Cindy (Jack) Grandman, Julie Maier; nephew, Nick Rainforth; niece, Liz (Nick) Tolve; and great- nephew, Caden Rainforth. He is preceded death by his father, Gene; and nephew, Nate Rainforth.
The funeral service for Doug will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 17, 2023, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 8320 South Street, Lincoln. Viewing will take place one hour prior to service. Memorials may be directed to the family for further designation.
This is just so sad. My heart goes out to his family.
Condolences to the family.
