Douglas “Doug” K. Kullbom

Douglas Kent Kullbom was born July 2, 1954 and was welcomed into God’s heavenly kingdom on March 2, 2023.

Doug is preceded in death by his father and mother, Dwight and Ganelle Kullbom. His memory will be carried on by his loving wife of 15 years, Chris, his daughters Barb (Nathan) Moseley and Beth Kullbom, his sons, Josh (Alexus) Ernst and Zach Ernst, his four precious granddaughters Cora, Hazel, Pearl, and Ruth, as well as his sister, Deb (Tom) Nesbitt, nephew, Nick (Courtney) Nesbitt, and niece, Bailey Nesbitt.

Doug was uniquely gifted to work with both his head and his hands. He earned a degree in engineering and spent his career leading people in the industries of pharmaceuticals, direct mail, and plumbing/HVAC. He worked equally hard at his hobbies of fishing and hunting. He enjoyed honing his skills, teaching others, and being in the great outdoors with family and friends.

The man was non-stop and could best be described as a MacGyver, with the ability to unconventionally solve problems. Doug had an extreme drive to get things done and was never idle. He loved leading and taking care of the people around him.

Doug’s accomplishments, however, pale in comparison to his commitment to being a loving husband, father, and friend. He was kind, faithful, steadfast, hospitable, selfless, funny, and earnest. Anyone who met him is a better person as a result of having known him. The family hopes that Doug’s impact on your life results in worship of God. Everything you experienced was a result of God’s work in Doug. He submitted his life to Christ and labored every day out of the truth of his salvation to glorify his creator.

On May 14, 2021, Doug retired and purchased a cabin in northern Minnesota. He and Chris enjoyed two seasons of beauty, solitude, fishing, and time with loved ones.

Doug suffered his first cardiac arrest on November 3, 2022. Thanks to co-workers, paramedics, and doctors, he recovered and returned home. The last four months were a gift from God, allowing the family additional time with him. Doug recently received the diagnosis of AL Amyloidosis, which is caused by a bone marrow disorder. Misfolded proteins can accumulate in the body’s organs, gradually causing damage and affecting function. On March 1, Doug suffered another cardiac arrest while under anesthesia for a bone marrow biopsy and was unable to recover.

Doug’s funeral service will be Monday, March 6th at 11 a.m. at Christ Lincoln at 4325 Sumner St Lincoln, NE 68506. Please join us for lunch immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Amyloidosis Foundation. Gifts may be made at: https://secure.qgiv.com/for/?key=amyfound or sent to: 7151 N. Main St. Ste. 2; Clarkston, MI 48346.
