“Edy” Montgomery

Edy Montgomery passed away on November 1, 2021, at the age of 87. She grew up on a farm, one of five children of Danish immigrants. She was proud of her heritage and was a member of the Danish Sisterhood of America.

Edy moved to Lincoln with her first husband, with whom she raised three children. She will be remembered as a wonderful stay-at-home mother who cooked meals, sewed clothes, and planned birthday parties for her children. When she became a grandmother, she enjoyed baking birthday cakes for and sharing her love of reading with her granddaughter.

During her second marriage, Edy ran the Joyo Theatre. She loved meeting theatre patrons and sharing movies and plays with the community.

Throughout her life, Edy enjoyed cooking, sewing, puzzles, singing, and movies. She was involved in numerous community and social organizations.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

  1. Edy was a big part of my childhood as I was a Havelock kid and she and Don were the owners of the Joyo where I spent countless Saturdays. They were kind and wonderful people. Edy always appreciated listening to my short stories and poems that I would write as a child and I will always remember her fondly.

  2. I’m sorry to have missed that Edy passed away. Our family were regulars at the Joyo Theatre. Edy and Don were always such wonderful movie hosts. Edy gave me a tour of her flower gardens at home one morning. We have fond memories of Don and Edy and the Joyo days, such wonderful people.

    Belated condolences to Edy’s family.
