I did not know Harlan well in high school – at Lincoln Northeast, but had the loveliest of memories of him at our 20th reunion. My brother Paul had died a few months before – and because it was under difficult circumstances, you know how it goes, no one really wanted to bring it up. Harlan came up to me while we were touring the school – it was on the stage in the auditorium, and he was wearing a black baseball cap. He said he wanted to tell me how sorry he was to hear that my brother had died, and went on to say how much he admired Paul’s musical ability – and also commented on our both being so musical. Such a much-needed and sincerely nice comment – most appreciated at the time, and I’ve never forgotten his kindness. My sincerest condolences to Harlan’s family and loved ones – I know he will be sorely missed.

I just found out about his passing so my thoughts and prayers are with all of his family at this time.

I always walked away uplifted after visiting him. He was an eternal optimist, but mostly I believe he loved our Lord more than any person I have ever known. Finally, he is at our Savior’s side with no tears or pain and with that great smile on his face!
