James Burton Hassler, 97, of Lincoln, passed away August 25, 2018. Jim was born on a farm near Exeter, Nebraska December 23, 1920 to George and Hannah Forbes Hassler. After his service in the Army during World War II, Jim obtained his B.S. from the University of California at Berkeley in 1948. He received his Ph.D. degree in Agriculture Economics from the University of California at Berkeley in 1952. Jim worked as a professor of Agriculture Economics at UC Berkeley and the University of Nebraska Lincoln, retiring in 1985. Outside of work, Jim had a variety of interests, including golf, astronomy, hunting, fishing, gardening, and taking Great Courses on line. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Lucille, his parents, three brothers John (Elaine) Hassler, Bill (LaVerna) Hassler, and Joe (Lela Ann) Hassler, sister Magdaleine (Ray) Geiger, three nephews Neil Hassler, Bruce Hassler, Jerome Geiger, and one niece Judy Geiger.
Survived by his children: Linda (Todd) Hall, Mark (Nancy) Hassler, 3 grandchildren Heather (Matt) Potthoff, Brent Hall and Stephen Hassler, 3 great grandchildren: Lucy Hall, Cole and Harper Potthoff, and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside service: 10 a.m. Saturday October 13th Fairview Cemetery, 84th and Adams in Lincoln. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, to KVNO Radio, 6001 Dodge Street CPACS 200, Omaha, Nebraska 68182.
