Joann Marie (Vogel) Starks

Joann Marie (Vogel) Starks, 87, of Lincoln, Nebraska passed away Friday, October 18, 2024. She was born Saturday, September 4, 1937, to Reuben and Marie Vogel.
Joann was the second of three children. She loved her parents and her siblings very much and they enjoyed good times whenever they were together.
Joann had a specific sense of humor that mirrored her father and brother. The kind people who cared for her at Sumner Place Skilled Nursing over the past two and a half years saw this humor from time to time and really enjoyed being around her because of her light heart.
Joann loved the great outdoors from the time she was a young girl to the present day. Camping, fishing, flower and vegetable gardening, visiting the Sunken Gardens, playing games with the grandkids, playing cards and Yahtzee, watching Braves baseball on tv, baking, joking around and enjoying visits from her family members brought her great amounts of joy.
She lived and loved well. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and were touched by the bright light that was the essence of her.
Joann was preceded in death by her husband, Surn Starks; parents, Reuben and Marie Vogel; sister, Marjorie (Harold); niece, Colleen (Dave); father-in-law, Richard and mother-in-law, Margaret; brother-in-law, Crain; sisters-in-law, Stavan and Terrill; grandparents; aunts and uncles; and many loved ones and friends.
She is survived by her children, Cindy (Frank), Jeanine (Randy), Blake (Kris), Todd, Amy (Dan), Chad (Deidre) and Tedica (Jason); brother, Ron (Loyla); sisters-in-law, Leonda (Larry), Lafran (Rodger), and Tammie (Bob); brother-in-law, Vonn; 13 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Our sincerest thanks to the staff at Sumner Place Skilled Nursing and the AseraCare Hospice team for their compassionate love and care for our mother during her greatest journey out of this life and into the eternal life.
Funeral Service will be held October 22, 2024, 11 AM at Wyuka Funeral Home, 3600 “O” Street, Lincoln, Nebraska. Visitation will be prior to the Service from 10 AM to 11 AM, at Wyuka Funeral Home. Graveside Service will follow at Wyuka Cemetery, Lincoln.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the Alzheimer’s Association, Sumner Place Skilled Nursing Facility, or Sunken Gardens.

Sending my sympathy to Joann’s family. I worked with her at Ovaltine many years ago and she was one of my favorites. I was 25 years old and couldn’t believe this woman had so many children and could work nights. She taught me that you need several cups of coffee to get through most days. She was so pretty and had the best disposition. May you find peace in knowing she touched many lives with her kindness.
