Michael Joseph Connelly, 74, passed away on November 7, 2024, in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was born on August 12, 1950, in Wagner, South Dakota to Dorothy (Speck) and Chester Connelly.
Mike spent his life selflessly serving God and others. His service started early when he enlisted into the Army and trained as a helicopter pilot, where he proudly served in the Vietnam and Gulf War. Mike’s wartime experience, and its effects, stayed with him throughout his life. Following his return from Vietnam, Mike worked in sales for Pamida where he met his future wife, Pamela Jo Mollica. Pam and Mike were married in June of 1973. He later took a job with the Lancaster County Department of Corrections where he held various roles over his 30-year career. During that time, Mike continued his military service with the Nebraska Army National Guard as part of the 24th Medical Company. Mike loved flying helicopters and was extremely proud of his service to his country. His freedom and independence were a vital part of his life. He enjoyed a good practical joke, loved baseball, Husker sports, and fishing. Mike was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he served as an acolyte and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He also maintained his membership to the American Legion and advocated for the support of veterans. Mike was committed to his faith and believed in living humbly and helping those in need. He deeply loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and extended family. He was a provider, doing whatever he could to support them. Mike was also known for his random acts of kindness and enjoyed helping anyone who needed help he could offer.
Mike is survived by his wife, Pam; children, Chris and Carrie (Gilbertson) Connelly and Janeen Connelly; sisters, Judy Connelly and Debbie Hutchinson; brother, Will Connelly; grandchildren, Liam, Luka, and Mila Connelly; and numerous family and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Dorothy; and brother, Pat Connelly.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at 9:30 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1420 K Street, Lincoln, NE, 68508. A Committal Service with Military Honors will be held at 1:30 PM at Omaha National Cemetery, 14250 Schram Rd, Omaha, NE 68138.
