Steven Troy Spencer Sr. was born September 1, 1962, in Gary, Indiana, to Annie Mae and Willie Spencer. He was the sixth of seven children born to this union.
He enlisted in the US Army in Omaha, Nebraska, from 1986 through 1989. While in the Army, he was a wheel vehicle repairer for two years and ten months. He received an army service ribbon for Mark Shaw (rifle) and was an expert in hand grenades.
After leaving the Army, he started working for Steel Fabricators. In 1999, Steve began working for Kawasaki and remained there for fifteen years.
Steve enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking, playing games, fishing, roller skating, basketball, ping pong, shooting pool, and stepping. He also was a big jokester.
Steve had a positive outlook on life and lived it on his own terms. He was a beloved father and a dear friend to many. His presence brought laughter and joy to all, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand. Those who had the privilege of knowing him will remember his stubbornness, kind heart, and love.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Annie Mae and Willie Spencer, and his sister-in-law, Kelly Miller-Spencer. To celebrate his legacy, he leaves to cherish his loving memory three brothers: Glen, of Chandler, Arizona; Willie (Carol) of Indianapolis, Indiana; and Jessie of Topeka, Kansas. Three sisters: Earlene (Melvin) Murphy of Stone Mountain, Georgia; Vanessa Reid of Las Vegas, Nevada; and Santoni. Five children: Troy, Tony, Trent, Tylin, and Tiffani. Eight grandchildren: Jashuane, Talene, James, Triniti, Justice, Elijah, Jumyla, and Atreus. Mothers’ of his children: Joyce and Natashia, and a great host of family, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
We take comfort in knowing that Steve’s legacy will live on through the love he shared, the lives he touched, and the memories that remain etched in our hearts.
Rest in peace, Father! You are loved and will be missed.
