Thomas “Tom” J. Mills, 88, of Lincoln, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2024, at Cove Hospice House. Born June 30, 1935, in Front Royal, VA, he was the beloved son of the late Osborne Sr. and Mary Shewbridge.
Tom proudly served in the United States Air Force for 21 years, dedicating his life to his country with honor and distinction. He was a life member of both the Veterans Affairs (V.A.) and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (V.F.W.), embodying the spirit of service and camaraderie long after his military career ended. Following his service, he spent 16 years as a dedicated employee and supervisor at Goodyear, where he was respected and admired by his colleagues.
On May 31, 1994, Tom married Andrea Minzel in a picturesque ceremony in Maui, Hawaii. Their marriage was a testament to their love and commitment, bringing joy and partnership for nearly three decades.
Tom’s legacy lives on through his family, who cherished his wisdom and kindness. He is survived by his loving wife, Andrea Mills; son, Thomas Jackson Mills, Jr. (Shereen); stepson, Randy (Sherrie) Minzel; daughters, Marsha (Mike) Donovan and Jackie (Rhoy) Delling; step daughter-in-law, Tracy Minzel; sister, Elizabeth (Tom) McTierman; sisters-in-law, Myrtie Buettgenbach and Sally Edwards; brother-in-law, Pete Monia; grandchildren; Gerrad Wiley, Adrienne Barr, Charlie & Nicole Schneider, Andy & Kayla Schneider, Sarah & Greg Smith, Nicole & Jason Ellis, T.J. Mills & Jessie, Tyler & Kristen Mills, Jessica & Zack Gropp, Renee Grandiflore; great-grandchildren, Cassie Mae Gropp, Harlow Ellis, Vinney Lopez; step grandchildren, Rodney & Sharon Minzel, Randy & Kristie Minzel, Andrew & Jenny Minzel, Cody Minzel & Becky, Amanda & Brandon Howe; step great-grandchildren, Lexi Minzel, Rodney Minzel III, Jaxson Minzel, Tobias Hemsath, Kailyn Hemsath, Dexter Minzel, Axel Minzel, Adam Minzel, Andrew Minzel, Jr., Cooper Minzel, Craighton Minzel, Cody Minzel, Jr., Charidise Minzel, Alex Pospichal, Jacelynn Cloyd, Payten Hurley, Marie Howe, Hanna Busboom, Kinsley Busboom; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Shirley Mills; his daughter, Mary Jayne Wiley; his stepson, Rodney Guy Minzel; his granddaughter, Jacqueline Wiley; three sisters; and two brothers.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, at Wyuka Funeral Home in Lincoln, with a viewing one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the family for future designation.
Tom Mills will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his country, his work, and most importantly, his family. His life of service, love, and integrity leaves a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
