Welcome to Wyuka Stables

The ideal backdrop for your special event, any season, anytime. Our historic stables offer a blend of rustic charm and elegant simplicity that echoes with the footsteps of history while providing modern amenities for comfort.

Wyuka is a Lakota Indian word meaning “to rest” and upon entering the grounds many tell us a “feeling of calm” comes over them. You are invited to tour the 140-plus rolling acres of trees, shrubs and flower gardens that make Wyuka Cemetery one of the most quietly beautiful places in our state.

Our History

Established in the early 20th century, the stable is the sole survivor of a bygone era marked by progression and innovation at Wyuka. Designed by architect L.A. Lamoreau of Minneapolis, the stable was built in 1909, exuding an air of rustic charm and enduring strength.

Originally serving as the workhorse of the cemetery grounds, the north portion of the stable housed the noble steeds responsible for the solemn duty of carting caskets to their final rest.
From steadfast service in times past to a stage for artistic expression, the Stable has been reborn as The Swan Theater. Here, beneath the open sky, audiences are swept away by Shakespearean dramas and diverse artistic performances, all thanks to a revival completed in October 2014. This transformation from a stable to an intimate theater and event space is a tribute to the power of reinvention and relevance.
